adventure v. nothing at all

Deaf and blind authoress and social reformer Helen Keller famously wrote, "Life is either a great adventure or nothing at all." The most obvious reading of this is: make sure you have some great adventures or you'll regret it, or, cast your life in terms of a great adventure or else. And I agree with this wholeheartedly.

But there is also the fact that 'nothing at all' isn't so bad. You don't want the whole of life to be nothing at all, but a bit of nothing is tolerable, as long as there is a decent amount of adventure in between. I suspect, though, one can become a little too tolerant of nothing at all. Still thinking about this one.
