Over time people generally settle for one of three options.

1. Life as therapy

2. A fake certainty constantly trimmed and re-inforced; an obsession.

3. Constant activity

There are others but they require accepting the primacy (consciously or unconsciously) of the observing self over the shifting selves that take possession or are utilised to get things done.
