You see mechanics doing it all the time in Egypt- using a hammer and a cold chisel or even a screwdriver to turn a nut. So if you haven't got a spanner use a screwdriver or even a nail and a rock as a hammer. Place the screwdriver tip against one edge of the nut and start hammering. You'll mess up the nut but it will free-up and turn.
