Polymathy forum
One of my long term interests is polymathy. A polymath is someone who has a width of learning, a spread of skills. It could mean a genius like Leonardo da Vinci. Or it could mean a 'blue collar polymath', someone who can fix all manner of things, play a musical instrument, train a dog, has learnt a foreign language. Specialisation is for insects- humans are best at being various. My contribution is to establish that polymathy has various levels- it's not just for geniuses. And it's not just about academic knowledge. True polymathy means attempting to master the intellectual, the physical and the artistic aspects of being human. Did you know Niels Bohr was goalie for the top Danish soccer club AB as well as being a great physicist? That Leonardo was as proud of his ability to bend iron bars as he was of his painting? You're probably far smarter and more talented than I am, so if I can aspire to polymathy you can too.
